Installation
System requirements
Murmur requires an Apple Silicon Mac. It is built exclusively for the M-series chip and will not run on Intel Macs.
- Chip: Apple M1 or later (M2, M3, M4 all supported)
- OS: macOS 15 Sequoia or later
- Storage: 150 MB for the app itself; additional space for transcription models (75 MB to 3 GB depending on model choice)
- RAM: 8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended for larger models
Downloading Murmur
Murmur is distributed directly — it is not yet on the Mac App Store. You can get it from two places:
- Direct download: murmur.you — always has the latest stable release
- GitHub releases: github.com/vishalvshekkar/VoiceMac/releases — useful if you want a specific version or want to verify checksums
The download is a .dmg disk image file.
Installing from the DMG
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - In the window that appears, drag the Murmur icon into the Applications folder.
- Eject the disk image (right-click it in Finder or the sidebar and choose Eject).
- Open Murmur from your Applications folder or via Spotlight.
First launch and Gatekeeper
Because Murmur is distributed outside the Mac App Store, macOS Gatekeeper will prompt you to confirm before running it for the first time.
If you see a dialog saying the app "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified," do the following:
- Open System Settings and go to Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section. You should see a message about Murmur being blocked.
- Click Open Anyway.
- macOS will ask one more time to confirm — click Open.
You only need to do this once. After the first confirmation, Murmur launches normally like any other app.
Murmur is notarized by Apple, so macOS verifies it is free of known malware before it runs. The Gatekeeper prompt is a standard precaution for apps distributed outside the App Store, not an indication of a problem.
Mac App Store
A Mac App Store version of Murmur is planned. Until it is available, use the direct download above.
License and free trial
Murmur includes a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. No account or payment information is required to start the trial.
After the trial period, a one-time purchase of $29 unlocks Murmur permanently — no subscription. Your license covers all future updates.
You can activate a license at any point during or after the trial from Murmur > License in the menu bar.
