License Activation
Murmur is a one-time purchase. After buying, you activate it by entering your license key in the app. No subscription, no recurring charges.
Purchasing a license
Murmur costs $29 (one-time). Purchase at murmur.you. You will receive a license key by email immediately after checkout.
Entering your license key
- Open Murmur and go to Settings > License.
- Paste your license key into the key field.
- Enter an Activation Name — a label identifying this Mac (it defaults to your computer's name).
- Click Activate.
Murmur contacts the license server to validate the key. If successful, the app unlocks immediately and the license status changes to Licensed. You do not need to restart the app.
Checking your license
Once activated, Settings > License shows an expandable details panel: license type, masked key, activation name, number of activations, expiry (or "Lifetime"), and when the license was last validated. A Validate Now button forces a fresh check with the server, and Contact Support pre-fills a support email with your license context.
Activations
Each license includes 2 Mac activations. This covers a primary machine and a secondary one — for example, a desktop and a laptop.
If you need to move a license to a new Mac, click Deactivate This Mac in Settings > License on the old machine and confirm. That releases this Mac's activation slot — the change reflects on the licensing server within about a minute — and you can activate on the new Mac with the same key. If the old Mac is no longer accessible, contact support to reset your activations.
Complimentary licenses
Some users receive a complimentary Friends & Family license from the developer (keys beginning with MUR-). These activate the same way and show a purple Complimentary License banner in Settings, along with a "Support Murmur" link if you ever feel like paying for the app anyway.
Offline use
Once activated, Murmur does not require a constant internet connection for the license to work. If it cannot reach the license server, it falls back to a 30-day offline grace period. During this time, all features remain available as normal.
When connectivity is restored, Murmur re-validates silently in the background.
License storage
Your license is stored in the macOS Keychain. It is tied to your Mac and persists across system updates and Murmur updates. Reinstalling Murmur does not remove or reset your license.
Keep your license key email in a safe place. If you ever need to reactivate from scratch, you will need the original key.
