AI Librarian

The AI Librarian is an automatically maintained document that summarizes your entire voice notes collection. Rather than surfacing individual notes, it gives you a bird's-eye view of what you have been thinking, working on, and talking about over time.

What it contains

The Librarian document is organized into four sections:

• Summary paragraph — a short prose description of the overall themes in your notes, written fresh each time the Librarian updates
• Entities — people, places, projects, and organizations mentioned across your notes, each with a mention count so you can see what recurs most often
• Keyword taxonomy — a structured list of the main topics and terms that appear across your notes corpus
• Recent topics — themes that have appeared in your most recent batch of notes, helping you see what is on your mind right now versus older recurring themes

How updates work

The Librarian updates automatically every 10 notes processed. You do not need to trigger it manually. After each batch of 10 notes, Murmur sends the new content to your configured AI provider, which regenerates the document incorporating the latest notes alongside the existing summary.

The update runs in the background and does not interrupt your workflow. You will see the Librarian timestamp change in the Notes section when it has refreshed.

The Librarian requires an AI provider to be configured. If no provider is set up, the Librarian section will show a prompt to add one in Settings > AI Providers.

Viewing and editing

Open the Librarian from the Notes section by tapping the Librarian button at the top of the list. The document is displayed as formatted text.

You can edit the Librarian manually — for example, to remove entries that are incorrect or to add context the AI missed. Manual edits are preserved across future automatic updates; the AI merges its new analysis with your edits rather than overwriting them.

Storage and privacy

The Librarian document is stored locally on your Mac. It is never uploaded anywhere by Murmur. The only external communication is the text sent to your AI provider during an update — which is governed by that provider's own privacy policy.

If you use a local Ollama provider, the entire pipeline stays on-device.
